Overview

The objective of this module is to build an in-depth understanding of how emerging digital technology influences innovation, and how managers can configure and lead digital innovation initiatives. The module is designed to equip learners with the skills to develop and lead new business models for existing and insurgent organisations. A specific emphasis is placed on understanding how digital technology can disrupt, enhance, and even stifle innovation activities. The course also considers how emerging digital technology can impact important issues such as employee well-being and future employment, and what managers can do now to prepare for these fundamental transformations.

Entry Requirements

Applicants should be over 21 years.  A Level 7 qualification or equivalent is required.

Learning Outcomes

  1. Demonstrate comprehension of business models and marketplace structures enabled by electronic communications
  2. Demonstrate a broad understanding of the core technologies underpinning digital business
  3. Demonstrate understanding of the macro-environment of an organisation, which presents opportunities and constraints on strategy and implementation
  4. Demonstrate understanding of approaches to developing digital business strategy
  5. Discuss the importance of the use of technology in supply chain management
  6. Demonstrate a critical understanding of marketing techniques for acquiring and retaining customers
  7. Discuss the importance of social media for digital business
  8. Critically evaluate opportunities for establishing entrepreneurial digital business ventures
  9. Competently present, discuss and evaluate several case studies that illustrate aspects of digital business strategy, implementation and practice
