Internal Transfers
QA252 New Entrants to First Year Fulltime Undergraduate Degree Programmes
New Entrant students wishing to transfer to another First Year Undergraduate programme
New entrants to First Year Full-time Undergraduate programmes in the University may, subsequent to registration, apply to transfer to another First Year Fulltime Undergraduate programme in the University for which they are eligible. Such transfer requests will only be considered if there are available places on the programme to which the student wishes to transfer.
Students should be aware that transferring between first year programmes after the start of term may impact adversely on their academic performance, depending on how much of the academic year they miss. Transfers are permitted strictly on the basis that students fully accept any such possible academic disadvantage.
Students should also accept that, where subjects/modules on the programme to which they wish to transfer have restrictions on the number of places available (e.g. Information Technology in First Arts) and that quota has been reached, the transferee must choose from alternative modules.
Eligibility
The transfer applicant must:
• meet the matriculation and specific programme requirements for admission onto the programme to which they wish to transfer;
• have the points required for entry for the programme to which they wish to transfer
N.B. This application process is for first year students only . If you have already completed a year or more at University of Galway and wish to apply to first year once more, please see below.
How to Apply
Applications to transfer for the academic year 2024/25 closed at 5pm on the 11th October, 2024. Be advised, NO further requests will be accepted after the closing date.
