The resources provided online as part of this course were comprehensive, but I enjoyed seeking out other texts, often on the recommendation of fellow students, from whom I learned so much over the 18 months or so of the course. The activities were varied enough, with a nice mix of history, archaeology, and literature, both prose and poetry, and I really quite enjoyed being able to analyse something, rather than simply regurgitate a lot of facts and knowledge. I’ve not stopped reading about this nation since, and am grateful for the opportunity to develop this side to my knowledge bank.

The Irish Studies Online course was just what I wanted – even despite some challenges for those of us seniors new to the virtual experience! Our course delved into early 4th century Archaeology and the original inhabitants of the country; the slow migration of the Celts from the East, the influence of religions and monks preserving much of western civilisation’s foundational writings, of settler colonialism and the dream to be free. We learned of the great writers and historical, beautiful music, and of the great politicians. Read more
