Basque, Occitan, and Irish within our Teacher Academies

BOITA (Basque, Occitan, and Irish within our Teacher Academies) is an ENLIGHT+ funded initiative focused on education through minoritised languages. The research group includes partners from Ollscoil na Gaillimhe, Euskal Herriko Unibertsitatea, and l’Université de Bordeaux. In July 2026, we held a summer school in Donostia that brought together teacher educators, in-service and student teachers, and school inspectors to examine common challenges and opportunities across the various sociolinguistic contexts. Invited speakers included Clíona Murray, Seán Ó Grádaigh, Sinéad Ní Ghuidhir, and Roseann Uí Fhlatharta, lecturers on the Máistir Gairmiúil san Oideachas programme here in Galway. The project has secured funding for further activities this academic year and colleagues are welcome to join.
