Postgraduate Research Courses

At J.E. Cairnes School of Business and Economics, our research is guided by a clear purpose: to generate high-quality, impactful scholarship that addresses the grand challenges shaping our world. We aim to inform decision-making and drive solutions for business and society leaders, public policy makers, and communities regionally, nationally, and internationally.

Our research activity is structured around three core thematic areas: Environment and Marine, Health and Ageing, and Digital Responsibility. These themes reflect our interdisciplinary approach and our commitment to creating knowledge for the public good.

A vibrant research community underpins this mission, built on strong networks of research centres, institutes, and disciplines that provide a collaborative environment for doctoral students and faculty alike. Our research infrastructure includes the Irish Centre for Social Gerontology (ICSG), Socio-Economic Marine Research Unit, Centre for Entrepreneurial Growth & Scaling (CEGS), Health Economics and Policy Analysis Centre (HEPAC), Centre for Economic Research on Inclusivity and Sustainability, and the Institute for Lifecourse and Society (ILAS).

These centres are complemented by our research-led disciplines in Economics, Marketing, Management, Accountancy & Finance, and Business Information Systems. Together, these entities foster a culture of inquiry, innovation, and impact. By joining our PhD community, students become part of a dynamic and internationally engaged research environment where they contribute to advancing knowledge and creating meaningful societal change.
