Biography

Dr Omid Sam-Daliri is a Postdoctoral researcher in the School of Engineering at University of Galway since May 2022. He received PhD degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Tehran in 2019. His PhD research involved the electrical impedance measurement method as a novel structural health monitoring technique for damage characterisation in adhesive joints. He also worked on this topic as a research assistant at University of Klagenfurt, Austria (2017-2018), in partnership with Silicon Austria Labs (SAL). After completing his PhD,  He worked as a research engineer in design and manufacturing companies in energy industry. Dr Sam-Daliri was employed as a postdoctoral researcher at University of Galway in MIDRONE project focusing on development of automated composite manufacturing technologies, and evaluation of the recycling of industrial thermoplastic composite using additive manufacturing (May 2022 - August 2023).
In 2023, he was awarded the Research Ireland RD&I Fellowship and joined ÉireComposites Teo. He developed a thermoplastic strain sensors for structural health monitoring of composite laminates. He is working on several projects regarding marine composite structures in the renewable energy sectors such as the FASTSHIP project, aimed at creating a retractable hydrofoil to enhance fuel efficiency and reduce CO2 emissions in maritime shipping , and LEPORTECT project aimed at creating a novel leading edge protection system to extend the lifespan of wind turbine blades. 
Dr. Sam-Daliri published numerous papers in international journals and conferences. He co-supervised several ME program students at University of Galway. He is a reviewer for several international journals such as Additive Manufacturing, Composites, Sensors, Polymer testing, Aerospace, Polymers, Cleaner materials. His main research interests are Composite Manufacturing and testing (polymers, ceramics , and metals), Material Characterisation, Recycling of composite materials, Structural Health Monitoring, Nondestructive Tests, Finite Element Analysis, Piezoresistive Sensors, Inkjet-printed Sensors, Welding, and Residual Stress. He has collaborated with universities, research centers, and industries in Ireland and overseas.
