Supporting researchers
Training and education
We run PPI study days, seminars and workshops for researchers (and for the public and patients). PPI contributors co-facilitate some of these events with researchers, including our PPI catalysts and trainers/educators from elsewhere in Ireland and abroad. We also deliver workshops and short introductory PPI seminars to research teams or other groups at University of Galway, introducing attendees to the basics of PPI. Examples of previous activities include:
- Introduction to PPI study day, Nov 2018
- PPI in clinical and non-clinical research, Apr 2019, led by Derek Stewart, one of our PPI Ignite partners
- Getting involved: building PPI capacity in researchers, Feb 2019 (led by University of Galway and PRIMER Manchester University)
- PPI in primary care research: Establishing and maintaining public partners, March 2019, co-faciltated by the HRB PRimary Care CTNI at the AUDGPI conference
- Should researchers be trusted with your health data? May 2019, led by Dr Avril Kennan, HRCI, a workshop at the National PPI Conference, University of Galway
- PPI in Health Economics: Challenges and Perspective, August 2019, led by Dr Michelle Queally, HEPAC, University of Galway, a PPI Ignite Catalyst
PPI Clinics
We run PPI clinics on a weekly basis (usually Thursdays) to discuss PPI challenges with researchers, community or patient organisations, and others. Email us to arrange a clinic. Clinics typically last 30-45 minutes and currently take place virtually.
Supporting researchers grant writing
The PPI Ignite @ University of Galway programme office provides supports to Principal Investigators/researchers across University of Galway when planning/drafting a grant application. Support is provided to researchers from any discipline where the research includes outcomes that impact human health. We encourage researchers to email us (ppi@universityofgalway.ie) early in the planning process and when appropriate, we will schedule a PPI clinic to provide support on PPI aspects of the research.
Read the Supporting Grant Applications document to learn more about PPI Ignite @ University of Galway's process for providing support.
