Kilkea Castle Scholarships
Kilkea Castle Scholarships Shannon College of Hotel Management, University of Galway
The Kilkea Castle Scholarships have been established to support talented students entering undergraduate studies at Shannon College of Hotel Management (SCHM), University of Galway.
These scholarships recognise both academic excellence and financial need, ensuring that students with the potential to succeed in hospitality management are supported in accessing and progressing through higher education.
Four scholarship categories are available, reflecting both domestic and international student pathways:
- Domestic/EU/EEA Student Merit-Based Scholarship
- Domestic/EU/EEA Student Financial Need Scholarship
- International/Non-EU Student Merit-Based Scholarship
- International/Non-EU Student Financial Need Scholarship
Scholarship Value
Each successful scholar will receive $2,000 in Year 1 of their undergraduate degree programme.
The scholarship award will be applied towards tuition fees at University of Galway. Where the student is already in receipt of other financial aid, the award may be issued as a stipend.
Scholarship Details
The Kilkea Castle Scholarships are awarded to students entering Year 1 of an undergraduate programme at Shannon College of Hotel Management.
The scholarships aim to support both high-achieving students and those who may face financial barriers, enabling them to pursue a career in hospitality and business.
Eligibility Criteria
Domestic / EU / EEA – Financial Need Scholarship
Applicants must:
- Be a registered student at Shannon College of Hotel Management
- Demonstrate financial need
- Meet one of the following criteria:
- Be in receipt of SUSI funding (Special Rate or Bands 1–4), or
- Be registered as a HEAR / Mature / FETAC / Access student
Domestic / EU / EEA – Merit-Based Scholarship
Applicants must:
- Demonstrate strong academic performance in their Leaving Certificate (or equivalent)
- Successfully progress to undergraduate studies at Shannon College of Hotel Management
International / Non-EU – Financial Need Scholarship
Applicants must:
- Be a registered student at Shannon College of Hotel Management
- Demonstrate financial need through an online application
- Provide evidence of an education loan or financial support arrangements in their home country
International / Non-EU – Merit-Based Scholarship
Applicants must:
- Be a registered student at Shannon College of Hotel Management
- Submit an online application outlining:
- Motivation for applying
- Academic qualifications
- Interest in developing connections with SCHM
- Demonstrate strong academic achievement
Application Process
The scholarship scheme will open in September 2026 for students enrolling in first year for the 2026/27 academic year.

Only fully completed applications received by the closing date will be considered.
Selection Process
Applications will be reviewed by a University selection panel.
Where multiple applicants are of equal merit, preference will be given to those demonstrating the greatest financial need.
The University’s decision is final. Detailed feedback is not available to unsuccessful applicants.
