Welcome

The Institute for Creativity is a new Research Institute at University of Galway. It is currently under development and will be launched formally in late 2024.

OUR PURPOSE

The Institute for Creativity is a living laboratory, a place where the university’s many strands intersect and overlap – a generative and inspirational space for artists and scholars, students and teachers, academics, and members of the public to come together. It supports funded research projects, hosts seminars and workshops, and generates new knowledge – aiming to explore contemporary global challenges from new perspectives, while supporting our communities in thinking anew about what creativity means for research, teaching, and the well-being of the wider world.

OUR VISION AND MISSION

Our aim is to be internationally renowned as a site for the academic study of creativity in all its manifestations – while also remembering that our position in Galway allows us to do things that are possible nowhere else.

The Institute for Creativity is a space – physical, virtual, imaginative, and intellectual – that orchestrates experimentation and cross-fertilisation, within and beyond academic disciplines, and within and beyond the university. The Institute for Creativity supports and enhances the excellent research that is already underway in the university, while also enabling the development of new projects that cut across disciplines, and which build upon our partnerships with local, national, and international groups, agencies, and organisations. It draws on our university’s history while redefining our understanding of what the university of the future can and should do.
