Established Professor Series
The Established Professor Series will explore a range of thought-provoking themes spanning the humanities and social sciences.
Through five thematic discussions, these events will highlight the breadth and depth of expertise within the College, demonstrate how their research engages with pressing contemporary issues, and create opportunities for dialogue across disciplines.
Visiting Fellowship Scheme
We welcome researchers from around the world to connect, collaborate and develop new ideas through our Visiting Fellowship Scheme.
Supported through the College’s Funding the Future programme, the scheme provides seed funding for short research visits designed to build new and emerging international collaborations with academics at University of Galway.

The Vice Dean for Research and Innovation leads the strategic development of those areas within the College, working in collaboration with the College Executive and the College Research Committee. The Vice Dean also represents the College on the University Research Committee.

The Head of Research Strategy and Development is responsible for the provision of high-level direction and support in delivering on the research ambitions for the College of Arts, Social Sciences and Celtic Studies. This includes supporting researchers from PhD to advanced level, at every stage of the research life cycle. Working closely with the Vice Dean for Research and Innovation and the College’s Research Committee, the Head of Research Strategy and Development works towards creating a research ecosystem that supports and advocates on behalf of the ambitions of our researchers in attaining impactful research outcomes.

The Digital Humanities Manager works with individual researchers and project teams from across the Arts and Humanities on the use of digital technologies to enable innovative Digital Humanities and Creative Tech research projects. Working across all phases of project design and development, this can involve initial consultations on design and technology scoping, technical project management, the design and development of digital platforms and supporting technical infrastructures, and the management and maintenance of digital projects beyond the life of their funding.

The Research Management Office Administrative Assistant supports the research community of the College of Arts, Social Sciences & Celtic Studies in the communication and dissemination of research news and events via varying social media platforms. They are also responsible for the management of the Hardiman Research Building which supports up to 250 PhD students, 25 postdoctoral researchers, and 15 visiting academics per year. The role also provides executive assistance to the Vice Dean for Research and Innovation and the Development Manager in support of the College’s research priorities.

The Digital Humanities Developer, under the direction of the Digital Humanities Manager, supports the College of Arts, Social Sciences and Celtic Studies (CASSCS) in delivering and maintaining technical solutions that enable research in the areas of digital humanities, creative technologies, and cultural analytics. They assist in developing a digital capacity at a high level among staff within CASSCS and contribute to the exploration and development of on-going technology innovation in funded research projects.
The Research Committee of the College of Arts, Social Sciences & Celtic Studies provides strategic leadership and oversight of research activity across the College. Its role is to support a vibrant and inclusive research culture by fostering collaboration, promoting excellence, and ensuring alignment with the University’s research strategy.
The Committee advises on research policy and priorities, supports the development of interdisciplinary initiatives, and works to enhance external funding opportunities and impact. It also provides a forum for communication and consultation on matters affecting researchers at all career stages, with a focus on mentoring, inclusion, and the promotion of high standards in research practice.
Through these functions, the Committee contributes to strengthening the College’s research profile locally, nationally, and internationally.
