Biography

Dongxia Zhang is a lecturer in Chinese language and culture in School of Languages, Literatures and Cultures, University of Galway.  Originally from Beijing, Dongxia started her career as a lecturer in English and began developing training programmes of Chinese language and culture in 1995 to expatriates working in multinational companies in Beijing. She started teaching Chinese Language and Culture courses at University of Galway in 2007. 

Dongxia teaches not only on Chinese language but also on Chinese and Asian cultures including Chinese history, religions and philosophies, Chinese painting and calligraphy, cross cultural communications and doing business in China. 

Dongxia is Committee member of Irish Association of Chinese Teachers, founding Vice President of Galway Irish Chinese Society and a member of the British Chinese Language Teaching Society, m
ember of European Association of Chinese Teaching, member of Chinese Student and Scholar association  University of Galway, member of the International staff network, and women¿s network University of Galway, and member of Irish Chinese Scholar Association.

Dongxia holds a Masters in Information Technology, Bachelor of English Language / Education, and a Postgraduate Diploma in Language Pedagogy.  Other qualifications include Post Graduate Diploma in Academic Practice Module of Teaching with Technology, Certificate of Screen Writing and certificates in teaching Chinese as a foreign language, a Postgraduate Certificate in Teaching and Learning in Higher Education, Teaching online at Centre of Excellence in Learning and Teaching, University of Galway. 

With 30 years' experience in teaching Chinese as a foreign language, Dongxia is keen on innovations in teaching and learning with a research interest in Assessment for Learning and Project Based Learning.
