Biography

Dr. Nuala Connolly is a Postdoctoral Researcher at the UNESCO Child and Family Research Centre (CFRC), School of Political Science and Sociology, NUI Galway. Dr. Connolly is an appointed member of the Council of Europe and European Commission Youth Partnership Pool of European Youth Researchers (PEYR).
Nuala is currently co-editing a book as part of the Youth Knowledge series of the Partnership.  Nuala is also a member of the drafting group preparing a Recommendation for the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe on youth work. Nuala was also a member of the editing committee of the 2nd European Youth Work Convention, drafting the Declaration of the Convention.

Prior to joining the CFRC, Nuala worked as a Lecturer in Department of Applied Social Studies and a Researcher in the Centre for Youth Research and Development, Maynooth University.

Nuala holds a PhD (2012) from the UCD School of Information and Library Studies. The research was completed as a scholar of the HW Wilson Foundation, and was subsequently awarded the International Emerald/ EFMD 2012 Outstanding Doctoral Research Highly Commended Award. 

Dr. Connolly has also worked as a part-time Lecturer and Module Coordinator, Research Fellow and Research Assistant at UCD Ireland.

Research Interests

Nuala is an experienced in multi-method and multi-themed child and youth research, including longitudinal evaluation and field-based action research at a European level. This experience includes qualitative, quantitative and quasi-experimental methodologies, in addition to policy analysis and report-writing. In addition to her experience in child and youth research and programme evaluation, Nuala’s interests include information policy and the sociology of technology.
