Dr Ciara Boylan

Biography

Ciara is a Postdoctoral Researcher at the UNESCO Child & Family Research Centre on the Youth Empathy & Social Values (YES) project (http://www.childandfamilyresearch.ie/cfrc/empathy/).

Ciara holds a DPhil (Phd) and MSt in history from the University of Oxford and a BA in history and philosophy from NUI Galway. She is co-editor, with Ciara Gallagher, of Constructions of the Irish Child in the Independence Period, 1910-1940, published in 2018 as part of the Palgrave Studies in the History of Childhood series. Her book on the career of Archbishop Richard Whately, The Life and Career of Archbishop Richard Whately: Ireland, Religion and Reform, was published by Four Courts Press in 2018.

Ciara was Postdoctoral Research Fellow at Trinity College, Dublin on the National Collection of Children's Books project during 2014 and 2015 (https://nccb.tcd.ie/about) where she undertook research on educational texts for children from 1700 to the present day. She holds a Master of Library and Information Studies from University College Dublin and worked in a number of libraries including the Royal Irish Academy Library and the National Library of Ireland.
