News School of Education at the European Conference on Educational Research 2026

The School of Education at the University of Galway was represented at the recent European Conference on Educational Research (ECER) 2026 in Tampere. Hosted annually by the European Educational Research Association (EERA), ECER 2026 brought together 3,812 educational researchers, policymakers, and practitioners from 83 countries to discuss emerging trends and critical challenges in education.

Professor Manuala Heinz, Dr Amy Hanna and Dr Cliona Murray presented papers at this year’s conference.

Professor Cornelia Connolly is Convenor for Network 16 (ICT in Education and Training). As Convenor Cornelia oversees the network’s scholarly program, steering research discussions centered on the integration of ICT, digital technologies, and emerging digital frameworks in educational contexts. Network 16 hosted paper sessions, symposia, and workshops highlighting contemporary research on digital literacy, AI in education, and equity in access to educational technology.

The School of Education marks a significant ECER milestone as Dr Ian Munday steps down after six impactful years as Convenor of EERA Network 13 (Philosophy of Education). During his tenure, Dr. Munday played a central role in driving philosophical inquiry into contemporary educational issues, cultivating international research collaborations, and shaping the network’s scholarly output across multiple annual European conferences.
