Starter Pack: E-module

A self-paced and interactive module, that provides key information to help you get ready for University. You can complete Starter Pack once you have accepted your CAO offer. Coming soon. 

Web Welcome: Online Orientation

Certain courses have an online orientation, that generally takes place a few days before the on-campus welcome. If your course offers a Web Welcome you will find the links to these on your personal welcome schedule. More information coming soon. 

Campus Welcome: On-Campus Orientation

A full welcome programme takes place on-campus in September (dates TBC). This welcome programme includes mandatory talks and course introductions, alongside fun activities to help you meet new people and get familiar with our campus. You will find all the details in your personal welcome schedule. More information coming soon. 

Freshers' Point 

It can be hard to meet new people as you start out at university. Freshers' Point is a weekly drop-in that takes place in semester one and provides a space for you to connect and socialise with other first years. Whether you're looking to make new friends, enjoy a cuppa, play some board games, or just chill out Freshers' Point is a relaxed and fun environment. Freshers' Point takes place on-campus in a central location and is led by fellow students who know exactly what it’s like to be in your shoes. Find out more on this webpage.

Start Strong: Semester One

Settling into university life takes time. Orientation is just the beginning. Start Strong is a series of events and activities that take place in semester one to help you get settled in to university life. Weekly listings will be available here.

Refresh and Refocus: Semester Two

This programme consists of a series of themed weeks and includes podcasts, coffee breaks, workshops and much more to provide you with the tools and resources to succeed in Semester Two. Dive into the programme and unlock your potential. Check out last years activities here.

Starting University Checklist

The checklist below will help you to prepare for starting university life – you can start some of these tasks straight away. 

BEFORE Orientation begins, check that you have:

  • Accepted your CAO offer of a place at University of Galway
  • Checked out the Help Hub for key info on parking and navigation during orientation
  • Arranged your accommodation (if moving to Galway)
  • Completed Starter Pack our pre-arrival e-module
  • Completed multi-factor authentication (you will receive an email with instructions on this after you receive your CAO offer)
  • Activated your online Campus account (IT account), and set up your new student email account – you must complete this step before you can register for your course. You will receive an email with detailed instructions on this soon after accepting your CAO offer
  • Registered for your course online
  • Planned your Orientation schedule 
  • Followed our Instagram page

BY THE END of Orientation, ensure you have:

  • Completed the checklist above
  • Reviewed your University of Galway email inbox
  • Activated your University of Galway Canvas account 
  • Received your timetable from your college. Classes start Monday 16 September
  • Completed the Campus Challenge
  • Studied the campus map to locate your lecture halls and classrooms 
  • Downloaded the SafeZone App and the YourSpace App
