Orientation 2024 - from 9 September 2024

Orientation is your introduction and welcome to University of Galway and it is not to be missed! Through participating in a fun mix of online and on-campus orientation activities you will learn about your course, meet University of Galway students and staff, explore the campus, and find out about the many supports and opportunities available to you as a University of Galway student.

Orientation is an essential element of the first year welcome programme: Tús Maith | Good Start – designed specifically to support undergraduate students throughout their first year. The programme aims to help you get off to a good start, settle in week by week and make the most of your time at University of Galway.

Online and on-campus orientation events start from Monday 9 September 2024. Campus Welcome-Campus Orientation will take place on Thursday 12 and Friday 13 September. The start dates for orientation activities differ per College, so make sure to check your personal orientation schedule below. .

Starter Pack - e module

Complete Starter Pack, our self-paced and interactive online module, that provides key information to help you get ready for University of Galway once you have accepted your CAO offer. A link will be provided by email or you can click on this link to get started.

Web Welcome - Online Orientation – from 09 Sep 2024

Online orientation sessions start from 3pm, Monday 9 September and continue through to Wednesday 11 September 2024, depending on your course and where applicable. Check your personal orientation schedule (use the search box above) for details.

Campus Welcome - Campus Orientation – 12 & 13 Sep 2024

A packed programme of welcome events, including programme introductions, campus navigation and social and sports events, take place Thursday 12 September and Friday 13 September. For key info on parking and navigation during on-campus orientation, click here.
HEAR and DARE inductions - students eligible for HEAR or DARE are invited to attend induction (check your email for details).

Start Strong - Semester One. Week by week settling in programme – from 16 Sep 2024

Make sure you dip into these weekly events and resources designed to support your transition to higher education. They will be on offer throughout your first semester, starting from Monday 16 September. Details will be communicated by email in our weekly ezine. Fáilte Fest 2024 - Thursday 12 and Friday 13 September

Get ready to kick-start your university experience! Take part in fun activities, meet new friends, and explore campus life.

On Thursday, from 5pm, join the societies for an evening of fun and games that includes a speed friending bingo and walking debates! The Big Fáilte Bash kicks off on Friday at 6pm with a silent disco, comedy bingo and lots more. Check out last years video to see all the fun that was had! Don't miss out!

Starting University checklist.

The checklist below will help you to prepare for University life – you can start some of these tasks straight away.

BEFORE Orientation begins, check that you have:

Accepted your CAO offer of a place at University of Galway
Checked out the Help Hub for key info on parking and navigation during orientation
Arranged your accommodation (if moving to Galway)
Completed Starter Pack our pre-arrival e-module
Completed multi-factor authentication (you will receive an email with instructions on this after you receive your CAO offer)
Activated your online Campus account (IT account), and set up your new student email account – you must complete this step before you can register for your course. You will receive an email with detailed instructions on this soon after accepting your CAO offer
Registered for your course online
Planned your Orientation schedule
Followed our Instagram page

BY THE END of Orientation, ensure you have:

Completed the checklist above
Reviewed your University of Galway email inbox
Activated your University of Galway Canvas account
Received your timetable from your college. Classes start Monday 16 September
