On 16 June 2026, AkiDwA hosted Leaving No One Behind: Migrant Women Leading Change Towards the 2030 Agenda at the Harbour Hotel, Galway.

The event brought together migrant women, community leaders, policymakers and partner organisations for a day of dialogue, reflection and action. Discussions focused on SDG 5: Gender Equality and SDG 10: Reduced Inequalities, with particular attention to the barriers migrant women continue to face in relation to safety, participation, language, immigration status, housing, childcare, access to information and decision-making.

Dr Sanja Bilić, Project Manager of the Centre for Law, Religion and Society, facilitated an Action Lab as part of the programme. Working in small groups, participants identified local inequalities, existing supports, key gaps and practical actions for communities, organisations, services and policymakers. The session was designed to ensure that lived experience remained central to the discussion and that participants’ ideas could feed into AkiDwA’s future documentation, advocacy and community work.

The event formed part of AkiDwA’s wider work marking 25 years of championing the rights of migrant women and girls in Ireland, and three years of the Together for a Better World project.
