Equality & Diversity
Equality & Diversity
The Equality & Diversity Committee in Physics works towards constantly enhancing our working environment to make it fairer and friendlier for all, and in particular more inclusive and respectful of minorities - including women amongst our student and staff cohorts. Two international schemes recognise and validate these efforts - IOP Project Juno, and Athena SWAN.
The aim of Project Juno is to recognise and reward departments that can demonstrate they have taken action to address the under-representation of women in university physics and to encourage better practice for both women and men. The School of Physics at NUI Galway is very pleased to support Project Juno. We became a supporter in 2010, and in 2013, we were the first university in Ireland to be awarded Juno Practitioner status. Since then, we have shown leadership in NUI Galway and in Ireland in promoting a broad range of equality, diversity and inclusion initiatives, and we were very proud to be the first School in the NUI Galway College of Science and Engineering to be awarded Athena SWAN Bronze in 2020.
