LLM students from University of Galway’s Irish Centre for Human Rights competed in the national Irish rounds of the prestigious Philip C. Jessup International Law Moot Court Competition. University of Galway was represented during the Irish oral rounds in the Law Society of Ireland by team members Luis Renato Urtusuastegui, Denisse Estupiñan, Etsegenet Resom Haile, and Meklit Aragaw Bekele. The team was accompanied by their coach, Dr Pearce Clancy.

The students spent the day debating challenging and timely legal issues such as the jurisdiction of the International Court of Justice, universal jurisdiction, sea-level rise, and the immunity of state property across three intensive rounds of oral advocacy. This marks University of Galway’s first time entering the Jessup in 17 years. The Irish Centre for Human Rights at University of Galway wishes the progressing teams every success in the international rounds in Washington DC.
