Blended Intensive Programmes (BIPs)

ENLIGHT Blended Intensive Programmes (BIPs) offer a unique opportunity to combine online learning with a short period of face-to-face instruction at one of our partner universities across Europe. BIPs allow credits to be gained towards your University of Galway degree programme while participating in an international experience. Eligible students can apply for Erasmus+ funding to help cover the costs of participation in the on-site element.

What opportunities are available?

Several BIPs are currently open to University of Galway students through the ENLIGHT network. Participation is subject to approval by your Programme Director, Year Coordinator, or Research Supervisor. These opportunities are only available to students who are registered with the University of Galway for academic year 2025/26.

How do I apply for an opportunity?

To apply:

  1. Review the course details on the ENLIGHT website.
  2. Discuss the opportunity with your Programme Director, Year Coordinator or Research Supervisor.
  3. If your academic lead agrees the course is appropriate, please complete the Application for an ENLIGHT BIP form.

Before submitting your application form, consider drafting your answers to the following questions which will be used in the selection process:

  • Why are you interested in taking the module and participating in this ENLIGHT initiative?
  • How will this module content be beneficial to your current programme?
  • How will this module be beneficial to your personal development or future study/career plans?

Applying does not mean you are guaranteed a place. Applicants will be contacted by 30 April with the outcome of shortlisting. Possible outcomes include:

  • Offer - A place is being held for you. Please confirm you would like to take the place within 5 days.
  • Waitlist - You may be offered a place if another student drops out or more spaces are made available.
  • Not shortlisted – Unfortunately, you have not been successful on this occasion.

What happens if I am selected?

You will be sent a link to an online guide to help you through the process with your confirmation email. This guide includes information on how to apply for Erasmus+ funding to support travel costs. The funding is normally between €600 and €1,000 dependent on where the course is taking place and the length of the onsite week. Funding is released upon completion of the course, submission of a certificate of attendance, and an EU participation report.
