Structure and Governance
The Sexual Violence and Harassment Prevention and Response Programme is housed within the Office of the Vice President for Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion.
The work is informed by Irish Legislation including Equality and Human Rights Duty, Research, National Strategies and Guidance. The SVHPR Committee provide expertise and direction to the programme of work.
The Office of the Vice President of Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion (VPEDI) and the Sexual Violence and Harassment Prevention and Response Committee have responsibility on behalf of the University for implementing the framework and establishing the programme of work. The work is informed by national and European policy, strategy, research, and guidance.
To address the issue in Higher Education, The Government of Ireland published Safe, Respectful, Supportive and Positive: Ending Sexual Violence and Harassment in Irish Higher Education Institutions in 2019, this framework is the main driver of the content of the programme of work – See further details on Framework
The framework requires each Higher Education Institute to have an action plan. See further details on University of Galway Action plan
