Work/Life Balance Programmes at University of Galway

The Office of the Vice-President for Equality, Diversity and Inclusion is working with others across campus, including the Human Resources Office, to increase the support available to both staff and managers to help create a culture that is supportive for working parents, carers, and general staff well-being.

To help foster this supportive culture there are currently two training opportunites available: 'Managers Matter: Leading Modern Families' and 'Maternity Matters:Return to Work' .  Please review the Staff Training and Development site for current available training courses.

Programmes Available

The OVPEDI is working with the assistance of an organisation called Platform 55 to provide the following training opportunities. These opportunities will continue to develop in the future, incorporating feedback and the needs of staff and managers.

Managers Matter: Leading Modern Families

Line-managers and Supervisors are encouraged to attend the 'Managers Matter' programme.

University of Galway has policies in place regarding flexible working, parental, carer, and maternity/paternity leave – but how these policies are being implemented and managed depends on you as a manager.  Many potential solutions to help support working parents and those with caring responsiblities relate directly to individual management. This training course is offered on select dates each semester.

This training programme will provide management and leadership advice on:

  • How to create a culture that values and supports all staff, inclusive of external responsibilities
  • How to support and manage employees with caring responsibilities
  • How to support and manage transitions from leave back to work

Upcoming dates:

  • 23 October, 10:00-12:00 (online)

Registration will be available on Core Portal via the Learning & Development page – further details and access to Core can be found here.
