Davy Scholarship for Females in Finance
The Davy Scholarship for Females in Finance has been established in partnership with Davy and administered through the Galway University Foundation to support and empower female students pursuing studies in finance and economics at the University of Galway.
At Davy, diversity of experience and perspective is essential—not only in hiring practices but in shaping the future of the financial industry. This scholarship reflects Davy’s commitment to lifelong learning and to creating opportunities that better reflect the communities it serves.
Founded in 1926, Davy has played a central role in the development of Ireland’s financial and capital markets and is now Ireland’s leading wealth management firm and investment bank. As the firm celebrates its centenary, this initiative forms part of its commitment to building a more inclusive future and encouraging greater female participation in finance-related careers.
Scholarship Value
The successful scholar will receive €1,000 per year for the duration of their undergraduate degree programme, subject to satisfactory academic progression and continued eligibility.
Scholarship Details
The Davy Scholarship for Females in Finance will be awarded annually to one female student entering Year 1 of an undergraduate degree at University of Galway that includes a Finance or Economics component.
The scholarship is designed to support the student throughout their undergraduate journey while encouraging participation and progression in finance-related disciplines.
Eligibility Criteria
Applicants must:
- Identify as female and be entering Year 1 of an undergraduate degree at University of Galway
- Be enrolled on a programme that includes Finance or Economics
- Be a registered member of the Student Managed Fund (SMF)
- Demonstrate academic ability, motivation, and an interest in finance
- Demonstrate financial need
- Meet one of the following criteria:
- Be in receipt of SUSI funding (Special Rate or Bands 1–4), or
- Be registered as a HEAR / Mature / FETAC / Access student
Application Process
The scholarship scheme will open in September 2026 for students enrolling in first year for the 2026/27 academic year.
All applicants are required to complete an online application form and submit all required supporting documentation. Applicants may also be asked to provide a personal statement outlining:
- Their academic and career ambitions
- Their interest in finance or economics
- How the scholarship would support their education
Only fully completed applications received by the closing date will be considered.
Selection Process
Applications will be assessed by a University selection panel based on merit, academic potential, and financial need.
Where multiple applicants are of an equal standard, preference will be given to those demonstrating the greatest financial need.
The University’s decision is final. Detailed feedback is not available to unsuccessful applicants.
