Davy Centenary Scholarship
Davy Centenary Scholarship (Celebrating 100 Years, Investing in the Future)
The Davy Centenary Scholarship has been established in partnership with Davy and administered through the Galway University Foundation to support and encourage students from underrepresented backgrounds to pursue a career in the financial industry.
As Davy celebrates 100 years of shaping Ireland’s financial landscape, this scholarship reflects its continued commitment to diversity, inclusion, and lifelong learning. It aims to provide meaningful opportunities for students who demonstrate strong potential and ambition, while ensuring access to education for those who may face financial barriers.
Founded in 1926 by James and Eugene Davy, Davy has grown to become Ireland’s leading wealth management firm and investment bank. With over 900 employees across Dublin, Cork, Galway, Belfast, and London, the firm remains deeply connected to the communities it serves and is committed to building a more inclusive and sustainable future.
Scholarship Value
The successful scholar will receive €1,000 per year for the duration of their undergraduate degree programme, subject to satisfactory academic progression and continued eligibility.
Scholarship Details
The Davy Centenary Scholarship will be awarded annually to one undergraduate student entering Year 1 of a degree programme at University of Galway that includes a Finance or Economics component.
The scholarship is designed to support the student throughout their undergraduate journey and to encourage engagement with the financial industry.
Eligibility Criteria
Applicants must:
- Be entering Year 1 of an undergraduate degree at University of Galway that includes Finance or Economics
- Be a registered member of the Student Managed Fund (SMF)
- Demonstrate academic ability, motivation, and an interest in finance or economics
- Demonstrate financial need
- Meet one of the following criteria:
- Be in receipt of SUSI funding (Special Rate or Bands 1–4), or
- Be registered as a HEAR / Mature / FETAC / Access student
Application Process
The scholarship scheme will open in September 2026 for students enrolling in first year for the 2026/27 academic year.
All applicants are required to complete an online application form and submit supporting documentation. Applicants may also be asked to provide a personal statement outlining:
- Their academic and career ambitions
- Their interest in the financial sector
- How the scholarship would support their education
Only fully completed applications received by the closing date will be considered.
Applications will be reviewed by a University selection panel, and shortlisted candidates may be invited for interview.
Selection Process
Applications will be assessed based on merit, with consideration given to academic potential, motivation, and financial need.
Where multiple applicants are of an equal standard, preference will be given to those demonstrating the greatest financial need.
The University’s selection decision is final. Detailed feedback is not available to unsuccessful applicants.
