About
As creative engagement with technology is an increasingly central element of our responses to global challenges, the centre will enable researchers, academics and those involved in the arts to bring their expertise and insight to a diverse range of areas of activity, from healthcare to manufacturing to the societal responses to climate change.
Focus Areas
1. Creative Arts Integration with Technology
The centre leverages the established strengths within the College of Arts, Social Sciences, and Celtic Studies, particularly in Digital Media, Film, Music, Theatre Studies, and Writing. We integrate these disciplines with technology to foster ground-breaking advancements and innovative solutions.
2. Interdisciplinary Approach
We adopt an interdisciplinary approach, addressing cultural, technological, and societal issues by embedding creative practice within a framework that encourages collaboration and cross-pollination of ideas across diverse fields.
3. Socially Engaged Research Projects
We are committed to developing research projects that extend beyond academic realms, engaging with industry partners and society at large. These projects aim to explore and address societal challenges through the lens of creativity and technology.
Objectives
- Foster collaborations and partnerships across academic institutions, industry, and society.
- Cultivate an environment that stimulates exploration and innovation at the intersection of creativity and technology.
- Empower individuals through educational programs that merge artistic expression with technological advancements.
- Address pressing societal issues through creative and technological solutions.
Building on the University’s strong relationships with the creative community in the western region and beyond, including the Strategic Education Partnerships with Galway International Arts Festival and Druid, the Centre for Creative Technologies will explore the impact on the traditional creative industries of rapid technological change in areas such as immersive reality, artificial intelligence and virtual production processes.
