Global Languages
BA (Global Languages)
Welcome to all students starting BA (Global Languages) in September.
This degree programme aims to produce graduates with a high level of competence in at least two languages. Students can choose from French, German, Gaeilge, Italian and Spanish. French and Gaeilge are available at post-Leaving Cert level, Italian is available at Beginner level, and German and Spanish are available to both Beginners and post-Leaving Cert students. The programme also offers a minor in Global Language Studies which will include modules on Chinese, Translation and Linguistics, Media and Technology, and Cultural Studies.
In First Year students will choose either two languages and Global Language Studies or three languages. First year subjects are equally weighted at 20 credits or ECTS per subject. In Second Year students will continue with one language major (30 ECTS) and either two language minors or one language minor and the Global Languages minor (2 x 15 ECTS). Third Year will be spent abroad either in a partner university or on a work placement. In Final Year students will continue with their majors and minors as per Second Year.
