The German Play 2026 - Opening Night on 24th of March
This is DAAD Lecturer Antonia Musolff's third year to direct the annual German Play which will be taking place in the Bank of Ireland Theatre in the O'Donoghue Center next week. Final Year German students will be taking to the stage performing "Der Besuch der Alten Dame" ("The Visit") by Swiss playwright Friedrich Dürrenmatt. Dürrenmatt described the play as a “tragicomedy,” a comic response to the tragic nature of life in the wake of WWII. The play can also be considered a contribution to the theater of the absurd, which portrays the hopelessness of human struggle in a meaningless world (Diego, Benjamin. "The Visit." LitCharts. LitCharts LLC, 7 Aug 2017. Web. 19 Mar 2026.) Many thanks to our wonderful DAAD language assistant Nura Alwani for her support throughout the process. German Lecturer Vincent O'Connell will performing every night. Toi, toi, toi and looking forward to seeing you all there!
