Film Screening "Roter Himmel" on 23rd of March 2026
Cinema of the Climate Crisis – Film screening: Christian Petzold, Roter Himmel [Afire] (2023)
[German with English subtitles]
In conjunction with the module ‘German Literature and Ecology’, you are invited to a public screening of this film by the leading German director Christian Petzold.
As forest fires spread on the edge of a Baltic coastal town, two friends arrive for a summer artists’ retreat. Exploring the relationships and tensions that develop when they realise they will have to share the house with strangers, the film touches on questions of misanthropy, climate denial, and the role of art in the face of unfolding disaster. Roter Himmel was awarded the Silver Bear at the 2023 Berlin Film Festival.
The screening will include a brief introduction in English by Dr Conor Brennan.
Date: Monday 23rd of March
Time: 6pm
Venue: O’Donoghue Theatre Black Box auditorium
