As part of the MAPPER Project, our team from the University of Galway (Oisín Callery, Billy Hamilton, Brendan Tobin, Pádraic MacDonnacha, and Pablo Merlo) met with Tom Crowley, Head of Development, and Alejandra Acosta, Programme Manager for Human Rights, Gender Equality and Climate Action, at the Embassy of Ireland in Bogotá.
The Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade of Ireland has played a vital role in supporting the project, funding the indigenous organisation AZICATCH to acquire essential computer equipment for the upcoming participatory GIS workshop in La Chorrera, Amazonas. Their support and guidance have been invaluable in advancing this collaboration, which empowers Indigenous communities in the Colombian Amazon to map and protect their ancestral territories.
