INFORMATION ABOUT REPEATS AND DEFERRALS
Consultation Day takes place on June 26th. If you wish to see individual lecturers for feedback on results, you can arrange an appointment with them. If you would prefer to meet the Heads of First Year English, contact emily.ridge@universityofgalway.ie and heather.ladd@universityofgalway.ie.
The Discipline of English will host an information session on taking English as a subject to degree level at 3pm on Wednesday June 26th. More details to follow.
If you have failed English, or have deferred modules in English, you will need to present for the second sitting.
For EN124 or EN125, you must retake the full exam in August (details of the repeat examination timetable will be released by the Exams Office). As in the first sitting, EN124 and EN125 will each take the form of a 2-hour in-person examination. Both EN124 and EN125 exams will have exactly the same format as before, but with a different unseen passage and poetry selection in the EN124 paper and different questions in the EN125 paper. For Section A of the EN124 papers, a set of six extracts will be released for study a week before the repeat examination date. (Only one of these passages will appear in the final paper). To start to prepare, you might read the primary texts for each module again and make sure you know them well.
For EN1101 and EN1106/ENSK1100, full information on resubmitting module essays will be posted to Canvas under ‘Assessment’ by June 26. If you have failed overall because of low marks, then that means you need to rework and re-submit an assignment or re-take an examination only for those assessment components which received a failing grade. The date for the re-submission of essay assignments is Tuesday August 6 (17:00). Please note that the repeat essay questions are the same as the original assessments for these courses; but you should be prepared to rethink and rework the content, and make yourself familiar with academic essay conventions (one good way to do this is by looking at Tory Young’s Studying English Literature (2008) Chapter 4). Second sitting exam paper questions for EN1101 and EN1106/ENSK1100 will be different to those at the first sitting, but the format of these exam papers will remain the same.
