Biotechnology is the application of biology for the benefit of humanity and the environment.
Our BSc Biotechnology is a science-focused and closely mentored course with strong career opportunities and an international outlook. Alongside core knowledge of modern biology, the BSc Biotechnology degree provides tailored training in communications, business and languages skills.
Students complete individual projects in research laboratories on campus in their fourth year, and have the opportunity to undertake placements in industry in Ireland, or research laboratories across Europe.
Your Career Path
Ireland’s Biotechnology sector is booming and accounts for over 30% of our exports, including Biopharma, Diagnostics and MedTech. It has been forecast that 50% more jobs will be created in the Irish biopharma sector alone over the next 5 years.
Biotechnologists can find other rewarding careers across the ‘smart economy’ including food, healthcare, and the environment, as well as in research.
A BSc in Biotechnology also opens doors to areas such as management, education, medicine and marketing.
Real-World Experience
BSc Biotechnology is unique in offering students a choice of 3rd year Erasmus research placements in labs in Europe, or as trainees in some of Ireland’s top biotech companies.
This experience enables our students to apply their learning, try out career paths, and build their graduate CV.
