Adrian Szlapka | Science & Technology Studies - Diploma & Degree
I have always been very interested in Science & Technology and a career in Engineering. However, lacking a third-level education prevented me from entering that field. Determined to overcome this obstacle, I developed an ambitious six-year academic plan with the University of Galway. My journey began with the Diploma in Science & Technology Studies (NFQ Level 7) and continued with the Honours Bachelor Degree (NFQ Level 8). University of Galway's curriculum is thoroughly prepared, offering up-to-date information with a modern approach. The lecturers, many of whom are industry professionals, are very knowledgeable, approachable and helpful. Their real-world experiences enhanced the learning environment, providing valuable industry insights and skills. Both courses significantly advanced my skills and expertise through relevant and engaging content, such as assignments, practical laboratories and research projects. The Diploma provided a solid scientific foundation, which was further expanded during the degree cycle. Throughout my studies, I frequently saw connections between different sciences and subjects, increasing my understanding.in Connect with Adrian
Orla Devane | Beekeeping - Diploma in Apiculture
I was eager to study for the diploma but at the same time apprehensive as my IT skills would not have been very strong. The assistance and support we received from the staff in Galway made the process a lot easier. No matter what issue any of us had there was always someone on hand to resolve the problem. I would recommend anyone who is thinking about the course to go for it. The friends and knowledge gained over the two years was immense. The joy of achieving the diploma made it all worthwhile.
Billy Scannell | BComm - Degree
Throughout the 4 years, the level of guidance and support from the university was outstanding. Lecturers and staff were always accessible and understanding, providing personalised assistance that kept me on track, even during my busiest times. The course structure and online resources were exceptionally well-organised, making it easy to stay engaged and manage assignments from abroad. University of Galway truly went above and beyond to facilitate my success, creating an academic environment that adapted to my needs rather than the other way around. I highly recommend this course to anyone needing flexibility without compromising on quality. After completing the degree, I felt well-prepared to enter the job market, and I soon secured a position in audit and assurance with Deloitte. The knowledge and skills I gained through this course made me a competitive candidate, and the experience of balancing studies with a sporting career demonstrated my dedication and time-management abilities to potential employers.in Connect with Billy
Kate McDonnell | Early Childhood Studies - Degree
My journey began several years ago when my Dad encouraged me to go to University of Galway. I applied through the CAO and I got Arts but I was not ready. As a singer/songwriter my aspirations and dreams took me to the shores of America instead. I loved entertaining but things changed quickly when I had a family so I began working in early years education in Boston. When Covid-19 happened, my family was faced with the imminent return to Ireland. Learning about the early years sector, I realised that I had a purpose to do what I could to make a difference in the lives of children. While I was not fond of the idea of online education, I became accustomed to my online classes. Plus, I did my thesis on children’s creativity, something I lived and breathed. They say it takes a village to raise a child, truly I believe it takes everyone in the community to create a graduate and achieve such a feat. I do not know how I got here but know I am here because of all of you. Now, I am ready to throw my hat up, wear the gown and collect what is rightfully mine – and know, I have earned every syllable on my honours Batchelor’s certificate as I shout from the rafters, ‘I did it, Dad!’
“Ah, not in knowledge is happiness, but in the acquisition of knowledge! In forever knowing, we are forever blessed; but to know all, were the curse of a fiend.” – Edgar Allen Poe

Donna Ryan | Science & Technology Studies - Diploma & Degree
From the moment I started my course, everything ran smoothly. Although it was during the pandemic, all my classes were online and I never set foot on campus during my 4 year degree until today my graduation day. I couldn't believe how time had flown by. The lectures were pre-recorded which was a godsend at times due to family commitments. The workload for the course was very doable and the set up for discussion rooms, break-out rooms was daunting at first but very rewarding as many other students benefited from this type of learning like I did. The course can be done in a shorter time frame than what I did. But that was the best thing about it, the flexibility really helped me navigate through the modules at my own pace. The elective modules I chose were modules I really like to specialise in. I'm now doing a postgraduate Diploma in Process Validation with Regulatory Affairs in pharma. The lectures I had at University of Galway inspired me to pursue further education in something that I was good at and it encouraged me to return to flexible learning again. Thank you to all the staff, lectures for making this possible and building my confidence.
Eoin Lenihan | Early Childhood Studies - Degree
I went back to college when I was 25 and it was the best decision I have ever made. I work full-time and being able to come home and open my computer to join in on class was super easy. Meetings on a Saturday were very nice as we got to meet people that slowly became some of my close friends. The course was very well catered to those working in the industry already and by doing the course I gained so much confidence in what I was already doing in my work. It also gave me the confidence to to stand by my decisions in work as I have a massive pool of knowledge to back myself up with. The course has really helped me in my everyday life with reflecting on things and having more confidence in myself. I would highly recommend anyone to do this course. It may seem scary to think about but once you get into it and meet the tutors and see that they are there to help and support you, it is such an easy process.
Ewa Ziemichod | Science & Technology Studies - Diploma & Degree
The option to select elective streams that aligned with my professional interests—specifically in medical device science and automation and control—made the learning experience both interesting and directly relevant to my work. The theoretical knowledge gained during the course was immediately applicable to engineering tasks at my job as a Manufacturing Engineer at a medical device company in Carrick on Shannon. This practical application built my understanding and confidence in performing my duties. The workshops and tutorials were engaging and provided hands-on experience that was invaluable. I highly recommend this course to anyone, as it offers general scientific education and the flexibility to select modules that best suit individual needs while providing comprehensive knowledge and skills in selected disciplines. The program's structure and support systems make it an excellent choice for anyone looking to advance their career while managing other life commitments. The university’s focus on real-world applications and industry relevance ensures that graduates are well-prepared for the demands of the current workforce.in Connect with Ewa
Sarah Dalton | Early Childhood Studies - Degree
Completing this 4-year part-time course has really added to my understanding and knowledge in the early years. Being able to see real life examples of theories learned in 1st year while working in the early years sector right up to continuously reflecting on practice in 4th year has helped me develop how I work with and educated children everyday, this has completely boosted my confidence. It was also extremely beneficial to me in my career path, now being able to fulfill lead educator and other roles in the early years sector. Meaning I can achieve my career goals and more. The lectures and staff made this course comprehensive and beneficial and offered continous professional support, especially during more challenging academic times such as during the final year thesis. I can not recommend a better college and staff to further your education via part-time degrees and diplomas.
