Nochtaithe
Nochtaithe (Unveiled), is a devised filmed performance directed and produced by Dr Miriam Haughton (Drama and Theatre Studies) in collaboration with eleven undergraduate and three postgraduate students in spring 2021 at the University of Galway during a COVID-19 lockdown. An artistic response to survivor testimony from the Mother and Baby Institution located in Tuam 1925-61, the performance signals the ongoing challenges faced by institutional survivors and their families. The performance was created through consultation with the multidisciplinary oral history team, and the Tuam advocacy group. Nochtaithe premiered in the Bealtaine festival (May 2021), followed by a UK premiere in the Liverpool Irish Festival (September 2021). A full account of the performance context and processes can be found here.
