Dr. Bharat B Tripathi

I am an Assistant Professor in Applied Mathematics at School of Mathematical and Statistical Sciences, National University of Ireland Galway, Ireland. The overarching theme of my research is the development of state-of-the-art numerical methods for the propagation of  nonlinear-acoustic and nonlinear-shear waves in fluids and solids, respectively, with applications to biomedical problems.

I received my B.Sc. degree in Statistics (Hons.) with the University Gold medal from Banaras Hindu University in 2010 and then went on to do my M.Sc. in Applied Statistics and Informatics in 2012, from Indian Institute of Technology Bombay, India. I earned my Ph.D. in 2015 from Institut d'Alembert, Sorbonne University (Paris-VI), France in Mechanical Engineering. My Ph.D. research focused on development of the discontinuous Galerkin method for nonlinear acoustic shocks in complex geometry with applications in sonic boom, therapeutic ultrasound. I worked in the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill as a Postdoctoral Associate from 2016 to 2017 and as a Research Assistant Professor from 2018 till August 2020. My research at UNC-CH was on the modeling and simulation of shear shock waves in brain in the context of traumatic brain injury, this also remains one of my current research areas.
