Valentina Balbi

Valentina joined the School of Maths in January 2021 as a lecturer in Applied Mathematics. Her research field is in soft tissues mechanics, she is interested in both experimental and theoretical aspects. Continuum mechanics, non-linear elasticity and viscoelasticity are her everyday tools.

Harold Berjamin

Harold's current research deals with the mechanical modelling of soft biological tissues, more specifically within the context of Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI).

Hannah Conroy-Broderick

Hannah graduated with a PhD in Applied Mathematics from NUI Galway in 2020, where she investigated instability in dielectric elastomers. She is currently a postdoctoral researcher at NUI Galway focusing on wave propagation in soft magnetic materials.

Alexander Erlich

Alexander's research focuses on how mechanics can solve problems in biology. He works on morphogenesis (animals & plants), physiology, and cell interactions. He studied and worked in Cambridge, Oxford, Manchester, Grenoble and Marseille.

Martin Meere

Martin is an applied mathematician working in the School of Mathematics at NUI Galway. He models physical systems where diffusive processes play an important role, for example, diffusion in crystals and diffusion mechanisms for drug delivery.

Michael McGettrick

Michael holds a PhD in String Theory (Theoretical Particle Physics). Interests include: Quantum algorithms Mathematics (graph theory, geometry) applied to transport networks
Using maths to compose music musical melodies and analyze rhythms
