How to Apply
Steps in Making an RPL Application
Information
- Identify the course that you are interested in applying to.
- Gather as much information about the course as possible.
- Decide what you wish to use your prior learning for i.e.
-
- Entry to a course,
- Advanced entry to a course, or,
- Module exemptions.

- Contact the course director and ask for a meeting to discuss your intentions.
- Alternatively you can contact the RPL Officer for an initial discussion on your options. (See contact details below).
Identification
- Explore your prior learning (e.g. in relation to the course's entry criteria or the learning outcomes of a module) with a view to making an application.
Documentation
- Draw up a list of all the courses you have completed- certified and non-formal (e.g. training courses at work or in community settings)
- Gather relevant evidence e.g. exam transcripts, course outlines, letters of attendance etc.
- If you are planning to draw from learning acquired throughout your working career start to lay that out in a chronological order- start with the most recent and work your way back.
- Gather evidence that supports your experiential learning e.g. job descriptions, references, samples of work etc.
- Complete the relevant RPL application forms and submit them as advised by the relevant deadline.
- Note if you are planning to use RPL for entry or advanced entry then you must also apply for the course through the normal application channels.
- RPL applications for module exemptions should be made before the module commences and must be made no later than three weeks after the module starting date.
- If your RPL application is to be based on prior Certified learning only please use RPL Application Form RPL1
- If your RPL application will be based on prior Certified learning and prior Experiential learning please use RPL Application Form RPL1 and RPL Portfolio Template RPL2
Assessment
- Your application will be reviewed by the relevant course director and subject matter experts as appropriate.
- You will be contacted if any additional information is required.
- You may be invited to attend an RPL interview to discuss details of your application.
Certification
- You will be notified of the outcome of your RPL application as soon as possible.
