Key Dates
Key dates for Postgraduate Applications
The online application system opens early October to accept applications for entry to the following September. As many courses fill up quickly, you are advised to apply as early as possible. Early application is also important for international applicants to allow ample time to organise a study visa.
Review/Closing Dates (for Taught Programmes)
For most programmes, University of Galway does not set specific closing dates for receipt of applications. Applications will be accepted on a rolling basis and course quotas will be reviewed continuously throughout the application cycle with the exception of applications for some programmes which are reviewed after the specifed closing date*. Candidates who do not have their final degree marks available may be made a conditional (provisional) offer.
*For programmes that have a set closing date, the closing date will appear on the individual course webpage.
Research Programme Deadlines
Research applications are generally accepted at any time. However the following exceptions should be noted:
Applications for the Traditional PhD in the College of Arts, Social Sciences and Celtic Studies are considered for students commencing their research in September and January only. Online applications must therefore be received before mid-July and mid-November, respectively.
Structured PhD applications in the College of Medicine, Nursing and Health Sciences are considered for students commencing their programmes in September and January. Further information on the Structured PhD in this College can be found at https://www.universityofgalway.ie/medicine-nursing-and-health-sciences/research/
Structured PhDs for the other Colleges within the University may occassionally decide to apply a specific deadline. Details of this will be given on the individual programme pages: http://www.universityofgalway.ie/courses/research-postgraduate-programmes/structured-phd/
You should allow at least four weeks, from the date we receive your application, to when you can expect to receive notification of whether you have been offered a place on a research programme.
