Campus Account and Password FAQ
What are my login details?
Students: Campus Account (IT Account) credentials are your University of Galway email address and password.
Staff are issued with a six-digit payroll number by Human Resources. Your Campus Account ID/username is derived by preceding your six-digit payroll number with a leading zero ‘0’ and adding a trailing ‘S’. e.g. payroll no. 123456 is 0123456s. New staff will be issued a temporary password before the start of their contract.
Where do I change my password?
You can now change your password on the Microsoft page at passwordreset.microsoftonline.com
For instructions on how to do click here
Do I need to be on campus to change my password?
No Self-Service Password Reset (SSPR) is available off-campus. You can avail of this service anywhere and anytime
Please note: If you are using a University laptop/desktop and reset your password while working from home, your password on the laptop/desktop won’t update until the next time you connect that device to the wired network on campus. In the meantime, use your existing password on the device.
How do I register for MFA in order to use SSPR

- Eduroam WiFi Network
- Library Systems
- PC Suite and Podium PC logins
- Staff Desktop logins
- Student Record System (Fees Payment and Registration Portal)

What are the recommended password requirements?
All passwords must have the following minimum complexity requirements:
- Must be a minimum of 12 characters long
- Should contain characters from at least 3 of the following character sets
- Lowercase characters 'a'-'z'
- Upper case characters 'A'-'Z'
- Numbers '0' - '9'
- Special characters, e.g.!"£$%^&*()
3. Should not be the same as the username, based on the word “password”, or based on variants of your name or username, date of birth, children's names, department name, key/character sequence, or dictionary word
Please see the University of Galway QA404 Password Policy
Why have I been forced to change my password?
Occasionally, in line with IT Security best practice, we will force University Campus Account holders to change their password at the next login. In advance of any forced password resets, we will write to all end users informing them of the upcoming changes. This will give end users an opportunity to use the Self Service Password Reset (SSPR) portal to change their password in advance of the scheduled forced password reset.
If you use SSPR in advance of the scheduled forced password reset, you will not be prompted to change the password on the scheduled day.
How do I change change my password if I am prompted?
You will be presented with a dialog box asking you to enter your current password and to enter and confirm your new password.
How do I update my new password on Eduroam?
You need to Forget the Eduroam network and then reconnect. When you reconnect you will be prompted for the new password
