Fieldwork Code of Practice
The University Safety and Health Association (USHA) published revised Guidance on Health and safety in Fieldwork in 2011.
This Guidance defines fieldwork in the broad sense as “any work carried out by staff or students for the purposes of teaching, research or other activities while representing the institution off-site”. Based on this broad definition, University of Galway as a teaching and research organisation and in all its activities undertakes many forms of fieldwork and so needs to incorporate this “best Practice” into our many forms of fieldwork e.g. market research, site visits. University of Galway has also produced this Code of Practice (University of Galway Fieldwork Code of Practice) to assist Units in local fieldwork safety management. The intention is that Units conducting any type of fieldwork, review and adapt this Code of Practice for their Unit's particular fieldwork and so assist in the risk assessment and fieldwork planning process.
