Safety Data Sheets
Suppliers of chemicals and other materials used in the workplace must provide users with the appropriate safety information. For chemicals this is in the form of a Safety Data Sheet (SDS) which gives the required information in a form prescribed by Irish/EU regulations and international standards. The current SDS must be provided by the supplier on delivery of the chemical. Personnel using chemicals must have access to the current SDSs for the chemicals that they work with for general and emergency use.
Please note:
- You must obtain the specific SDS from the individual supplier who you purchased the chemical from.
- There are specific requirements applying to SDSs as of January 1st 2023. See link for specific details.
- The SDSs can be in either hard or soft copy (version that the supplier provided); however it is not sufficient to have access only via the internet.
- Users should also be aware of changes in chemical safety labeling, SDSs, etc., brought into effect by the UN's Globally Harmonised System (GHS) and the EU's REACH - see HSA link.
