Adolescent Sexual Health Behaviour
HEALTH BEHAVIOUR IN SCHOOL-AGED CHILDREN (HBSC) IRELAND
World Health Organization Collaborative Cross-National Study
The Health Behaviour in School-aged Children (HBSC) survey is a WHO collaborative cross-national study that monitors the health behaviours, health outcomes and social environments of school-aged children every four years. HBSC Ireland surveys school-going children aged 9-18 years. The study is conducted by the HBSC Ireland team, based at the Health Promotion Research Centre, University of Galway.
Adolescent sexual health behaviour in Ireland: data dissemination and development.
This work was funded by the Irish Research Council for the Humanities and Social Sciences collaborative grant with the Crisis Pregnancy Programme of the HSE. The project involved a systematic analysis of the sexual health behaviour data collected by the 2010 Irish Health Behaviour in School-aged Children (HBSC) study. The project included a series of systematic analyses of the HBSC adolescent data, an analytical comparison of HBSC 2010 data with other national sexual health studies including the Irish Contraception and Crisis Pregnancy (ICCP) and Irish Study of Sexual Health and Relationships (ISSHR) studies, and replication of published findings on the patterns of sexual behaviour with representative Irish data. The project also involved the development and piloting of new sexual health questions for inclusion in the 2014 Irish HBSC study and collaboration with stakeholders to develop and implement enhanced dissemination mechanisms.
