Central Safety Training
What is Central Safety Training?
The University of Galway as an employer is required by the 2005 Safety at Work Act to provide adequate training to our employees, who also have a legal obligation to attend the safety training provided for them. Safety training includes induction training when an employee starts or changes role. Annually each Head of Unit needs to arrange that the safety training needs of all the Unit’s employees is identified. From this the Health and Safety Office develops an annual programme of central safety training courses. Heads need to oversee the attendance at staff at this legally required training. Unit Heads are required to organise and pay for safety training courses that are specific to their Unit or a small number of Units. In such cases it is financially and/or logistically more appropriate for the specific Unit(s) to organise this training directly
