Reporting to Quality and Qualifications Ireland
Quality and Qualifications Ireland (QQI) is responsible for the external quality assurance of further and higher education and training in Ireland. To carry out this role, QQI monitors the effectiveness of our quality assurance systems. It does this through a number of interlinked processes including annual reporting, periodic external review and annual dialogue meetings.
Annual quality reporting
Our Annual Quality Report (AQR) to QQI provides evidence of the development and evolution of our internal quality system. It provides QQI with assurance that internal quality assurance procedures have been established in the University in relation to academic, research and professional services and that these are being implemented consistent with regulatory requirements. The report also details quality enhancement activities. All areas of the University are involved in some way in the implementation and continued enhancement of our internal quality system.
Our Annual Reports are co-ordinated by the Quality Office and approved by the University Management Team and Academic Council. They are published on QQI’s website and internally on the Quality Office website providing transparency on our assurance and enhancement of quality to external stakeholders. The Annual Quality Report covers the following key areas:
- Our Governance and Management Structures for Quality Assurance
- Development and Delivery of Academic Programmes
- Learner Resources and Support
- Quality Assurance of Research Activities
- Staff Recruitment, Development and Support
- Information and Data Management
- Public Information and Communication
- Monitoring and Periodic Review
The report reflects the Quality Assurance processes that make up our quality management system including:
School and Unit Quality Reviews
Policies and Procedures Repository
The AQR also reflects the governance processes that underpin our Quality Management system including the Quality Enhancement Committee.
Institutional Reviews
QQI ensures that our quality assurance procedures are effective through an external review of the effectiveness and implementation of our own internal quality assurance procedures. The AQR assists with the preparation for the institutional review process. It forms an integral part of the procedural QA documentation provided to review teams demonstrating that our internal QA system is aligned with QQI’s Core Statutory Guidelines, other sector and topic specific guidelines and the European Standards and Guidelines for Quality Assurance in the European Higher Education Area 2015 (ESG).
Dialogue meetings with QQI
Our annual report and periodic institutional reviews are complemented by periodic quality dialogue meetings. These meetings are an opportunity for us to discuss strategic developments in quality assurance with QQI as well as highlighting our achievements, challenges and future plans.
