Gender Arc at NUI Galway
Gender ARC at NUI Galway
Gender Arc at NUI Galway is part of a research network linking nearly 100 academics and researchers at the National University of Ireland, Galway and the University of Limerick. Members of Gender Arc are engaged in gender-focused research across diverse disciplines relating to culture, history, society, economy, politics, science, law and education. Gender Arc at NUI Galway is hosted within the Moore Institute under the direction of an interdisciplinary coordinating committee. Members of the network lead two university research clusters: Gender and Public Policy in the Whitaker Institute and Gender, Discourse and Identities in the Moore Institute.
MISSION
- Contribute to the development of a vibrant research culture at NUI Galway that is gender-informed and promotes gender equality
- Foster cross-disciplinary gender-focused research
- Support communication, exchange and collaboration among researchers at NUI Galway and external research partners engaged in gender-focused research
- Advance public dialogue, critical engagement and community outreach on gender issues and research.
- Build research capacity among academic and postgraduate researchers at NUI Galway in gender-focused research
- Showcase and promote visibility of the research projects and outputs of Gender Arc members and associates
- Maintain active links with NUI Galway’s research institutes to increase the presence, visibility and impact of gender-focused research in these forums
- Encourage and support members and associates to develop research projects and to seek research funding appropriate to discipline and stage of career
ACTIVITIES
Information sharing: Members and associates of Gender Arc receive regular e-bulletins on gender relevant events, calls for papers, and research opportunities. Events organised or sponsored by Gender Arc members and associates are promoted through this website and Gender Arc e-list and Twitter.
Research seminar series: Gender Arc at NUI Galway organises a regular Research Seminar Series featuring speakers from different disciplines, including academic staff as well as post-doctoral researchers and PhD candidates, from NUI Galway and beyond. Seminars are open to all students, academic staff and the public.
Public lectures and co-sponsored events: Gender Arc at NUI Galway regularly co-organises and co-sponsors events and activities with Schools, disciplines and units at NUI Galway and occasional public lectures with national and international guest speakers
JOIN
Any member of staff at NUI Galway who would like to join Gender Arc can do so by emailing genderarc@nuigalway.ie with the message: "please add me to the members list". PhD researchers and taught postgraduate students, as well as academics and researchers in other institutions, are very welcome to join as associates. To become an associate of Gender Arc please email genderarc@nuigalway.ie with the message: "please add me to the associates list". Members can serve on the Coordinating Committee.
