Computer Science
Course Overview
Computer Science offers MSc degrees comprising an extended period of research and the submission of a dissertation. Admission to a research degree is at the discretion of the potential supervisor (a member of academic staff) and the Head of Discipline. Applicants should have an honours primary degree in computing/IT or related areas. Applications for MSc and PhD by research can be made at any time, but registration follows the normal academic year cycle. Most of the department's research candidates are supported by fellowship schemes or externally funded research programmes.

Entry Requirements
Candidates must have a good honours degree (typically First Class Honours or 2:1) in a relevant area. You are recommended to begin by contacting a member of Information Technology academic staff whose research interests are most closely aligned to yours. You can find information on research interests and contacts on our website: http://www.it.nuigalway.ie/.
For MSc Applied Computing & IT: Candidates must hold at least a 2nd Class Honours Primary Degree in a related subject area or hold a Primary Degree in a related area without honours (which is acceptable to College) and have practical experience in the subject area over a period of not less than three years.
Academics will help you to identify a good research topic and can advise you of funding opportunities.
