Overview

The Manufacturing Technology module introduces engineering materials including metals, ceramics, polymers and composite materials, manufacturing processes, both traditional and recently developed and electronic manufacturing technologies.

Entry Requirements

Applicants must be over 21 years of age and should have a Diploma at NFQ Level 7 of 90 ECTS minimum, in a Science, Engineering or Technical area. Applications can be considered using Recognition of Prior Learning.

Learning Outcomes

1. Identify the fundamental principles of manufacturing technology
2. Identify the materials used in manufacturing, manufacturing processes, production systems and trends in manufacturing
3. Explain the nature of materials, mechanical and physical properties and the use of dimensions, tolerances and surfaces
4. Apply ethics, respect and responsibility in the manufacturing of products for customer use
5. Evaluate how manufacturing meets the environmental demands of today’s market place
