Overview

Projects are becoming an increasingly important part of how all organisations across industry sectors do business. The primary objective of this module is to provide learners with the knowledge, skills and understanding necessary to apply project management principles, tools and techniques to deliver value to the organisation.  This module will explain the role of the project manager, and provide learners with skills and knowledge to perform this role in dealing with stakeholders needs and expectations, developing project plans and executing them in an efficient and effective manner.

Entry Requirements

Applicants must be over 21 years of age. Ideally, learners will have a Level 7 NFQ qualification or relevant work experience. Learners who do not meet the entry requirements and have project experience through their work will be evaluated under the University of Galway Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) policy.

What you will Learn

The module will explain the role of the project manager, and provide learners with skills and knowledge to perform this role in dealing with stakeholders needs and expectations, developing project plans and executing them in an efficient and effective manner.

Learning Outcomes

  1. Describe the main activities and tasks of a project manager
  2. Assess how different types of organisational structure impact on the running of a project
  3. Determine which project management approach is appropriate in different situations.
  4. Construct a schedule and a budget for a project, and track progress against these
  5. Understand the importance of risk in a project, and how it can be managed
  6. Recognise the different types of power in organisations
  7. Analyse the differences between groups differ from teams
  8. Identify how to create effective teams
