Applying evidence-based solutions to chronic disease prevention and management in Ireland: End of Programme Dissemination Event The HRB funded Collaborative Doctoral Programme in Chronic Disease Prevention (CDP-CDP) held an end of programme dissemination event on 17th October 2024, in the Museum of Literature Ireland (MoLI), UCD Newman House, St Stephen’s Green, Dublin. The CDP-CDP, which is directed by Professor Molly Byrne at University of Galway and co-directed by Prof Patricia Kearney at UCC, was established in 2020, following a successful Health Research Board Collaborative Doctoral Award application.

With almost €1.5m in funding, the programme had supported six interdisciplinary PhD scholars over four years, who have now completed projects designed to improve chronic disease prevention in Ireland. The programme is a collaboration between academic researchers, clinical researchers, clinicians, health service providers, and public and patient representatives (PPI), and focuses on diabetes, heart disease and stroke prevention.

The trans-disciplinary consortium draws on national and international expertise, and includes members from University of Galway, University College Cork, University College Dublin, University of Manchester (UK), University of Newcastle (UK), Twente University (The Netherlands), Drexel University (USA), the Health Service Executive, and PPI groups. At the end of programme dissemination event, PhD scholars presented their research findings to members of the CDP-CDP consortium and invited guests.

Keynote speakers included Prof Peter Bower (University of Manchester), Dr Kate Gajewska (Clinical Manager for Advocacy and Research, Diabetes Ireland), Dr Siobhán Ni Bhriain (National Clinical Director Integrated Care, Health Services Executive) and Dr Teresa Maguire, Health Research Board. https://www.universityofgalway.ie/cdp-cdp/
