The Rory Kavanagh Bursary
One second year student will benefit from this generous bursary set up by the family of an NUI, Galway graduate in Italian. It is named the Rory Kavanagh Bursary in memory of Rory Kavanagh, a 1993 B.A graduate who died tragically in 1996. Rory spent one year as an Erasmus student in Bologna (1991-1992) and whilst there developed a great fondness and understanding of Italian culture, language and life. Because of this, his family consider that the most meaningful memorial to him would be to enable another person to have a similar enriching experience. Accordingly they make available an annual bursary which is an open competition among all students eligible for a Socrates placement. The selection takes place in February each year.
Students opt for either the B.A. 3 year course or the B.A International (4 Years). In the latter the third year is spent at a selected university in Italy.
Period Abroad Requirement
Modern Language students should be aware of the requirement to spend a year in the county of their chosen language.
