Students from the MA in International Development Practice (MA-IDP) attended the Irish Forum for International Development (IFIAD) Conference on Thursday, 20 November, at Iveagh House, Dublin. This year’s conference focused on rethinking agricultural trade for food security and nutrition, bringing together government, academics, and practitioners to explore Ireland’s role in shaping equitable and sustainable global food systems. During the event, MA-IDP students Ali Mousa and Maria Luna (in photos) had the opportunity to engage briefly with the Minister of State at the Department of Foreign Affairs, with special responsibility for International Development and Diaspora, Neale Richmond T.D. The conference featured contributions from a diverse range of speakers, including representatives from the FAO, the European Commission’s DG INTPA, the University of Cambridge and organisations working directly with smallholder farmers across Africa. Discussions addressed critical challenges and policy responses relating to food security, nutrition, and fair agricultural trade systems, while reaffirming Ireland’s core principles in international development. Professor Cathal O’Donoghue contributed as a panel speaker, offering expert insights into the conference theme. MA-IDP students also participated in group discussions aimed at identifying key policy priorities for Ireland’s upcoming presidency of the Council of the European Union. Dr Una Murray, Director of the MA in International Development Practice, serves on the Steering Committee of IFIAD. [More Info]
