In 2017, NUI Galway officially became an Education Partner to GMR under a five-year agreement. Through this partnership, GMR works with staff and students on a varienty of programmes.
BA Arts (Music)
In September 2018, NUI Galway had its first intake of students on the newly formed BA with Music. Since then, the BA Arts (Music), under the Head of Discipline, Dr Aidan Thomson has been delighted to work with GMR, devising workshops built around live performance in the classroom as ConTempo Quartet bring students' scores to life.
Galway Music Residency in partnership with NUI Galway have provided some very useful and practical tips for preparing for the Leaving Cert Practice Exam. What is the Leaving Cert Music practical exam really like? In the following video, you’ll hear from a Leaving Cert Music teacher and examiner on what is expected in the exam and how best to prepare. Music for Galway
In March 2019, Music for Galway entered into a strategic partnership with NUI Galway. The new partnership gives students on NUI Galway’s BA in Music the opportunity to work closely with some of Europe’s top performers. Students will have regular workshops with performers, developing such skills as critical listening, analysis and concert reviewing. In addition, they will have the chance to take up an internship with Music for Galway, at the end of which they would organize one of the concerts for the following season.

On 17th February 2021, NUI Galway launched the new partnership with Sharon Shannon and the BA Arts (Music) Degree Programme.
The new partnership entails Sharon Shannon delivering a series of masterclasses that look at different facets of the creation, performance and production of traditional Irish music along with her long-time collaborator, Irish-American fiddle player, Win Horan. These masterclasses will be used as part of the teaching of traditional music modules within the new BA in Music. Sharon and Win will follow up the masterclasses with six live workshops per year, in which they will discuss traditional Irish music directly with the students.
